A Doctor’s Description of Their Session to Reduce Pain

It’s always fascinating to hear what clients gain from their sessions, here’s Rozelle’s experience from a medical perspective:

In my Grinberg method session with Charlotte, I learnt how to reduce my neck pain and prevent it from reoccurring in the future. I realised some features of the methodology from a biomedical view point. And in fact, the experience taught me a lot more than words can.

Charlotte’s employment of Grinberg method literally teaches you about your body: and it’s collaborative as all good teaching is. In my session she activates the different points of tension and pain in the area concerned, which evolved as I moved, breathed and consciously re-created and let go of the familiar pain concerned. Her fingers triggered proprioceptive receptors, giving a time and intensity map which my brain registered. It gave me a physiological memory of the automatic movements I can create which caused the pain. The reason that is powerful is the memory component; when I left my session, I didn’t leave the knowledge behind – unlike, say visiting a masseuse.

I can now notice my habits of position, breathing and movement which cause the pain. It’s like a roadmap to my body that I know exists but needed activation. In my session, I learnt to use and expand my bodily perception as Charlotte awakened the routes that were causing my neck pain.

The memory of her instruction is in my body and reconnected to my brain now, I can use my ability to perceive in the body when I need to stop something that creates the pain.

Reflexology for Pregnancy – Rebecca’s Experience

Pregnancy Reflexology London.TIF

During pregnancy, Reflexology can be a welcome support for the mother to be. I met Rebecca at the beginning of her third trimester of pregnancy. She was anxious and experienced daily discomfort from swollen feet and lower back pain.

In sessions we focused on reducing her physical symptoms and training her ability to breathe and relax which later became invaluable to help her through the labour and birth.

Here’s Rebecca’s experience in her own words:

“The labour was amazing. I loved it, which was a big change from the first time, which I had told you was induced and ultimately, a C-Section. Throughout my second pregnancy I was quite doubtful of myself and at times really fearful of labour. Eventually, the labour started naturally the night before my last appointment with you and I was just so excited that the baby was coming. I was full of confidence and really happy to ‘get to work’ as it was. Labour was long by any standards, and hard (by definition!). I did lose it a bit at times, but overall I must have held it together because my over-riding memory of it all was that it was the best feeling in the world! It was wild, and hard and I loved it.

I wholeheartedly put that confidence down to the work that we did together. I always said that sessions with you were extremely therapeutic, on so many levels. As you know, I recommended you to many people and selfishly wish you were still here because two of my neighbours are expecting and I think every pregnant woman should have access to a therapist of your calibre. Pregnancy is such an important time for a woman, and the moment when she is at her most vulnerable, physically, psychologically and socially. To have such great support made a huge difference to me, entering a new phase of my life.”

A Designer’s Update

Learn to be well Blog - A Designer's Update - Grinberg Method and Reflexology/Footwork | Charlotte Crowther, London . Source: http://www.graceleeillustrator.com

It’s always great to hear how client’s have continued their projects after working with them for a period. It brought a smile to receive this update yesterday!

I just wanted to update you on the latest movements in my life! I have decided to go to Bali and Malaysia for a month next year to do some research into fabrics and possibly ethical tailoring. I’m working on a collection of pieces for shows and festivals which is really exciting and I hope to have ready by May 2014.

I’m also designing the course material for two university courses, specific and technical English for design and engineering students. I hope to get more work like this especially in design schools.

So first and foremost I wanted to thank you for helping me help myself and gain confidence in the fact that I can be a designer!

I remind myself of the breathing exercises you taught me and still have the instructions up on my bedroom door.

I really am ever so grateful for all your help this year, I feel like I’ve made so much progress and the Grinberg Method has made a really positive impact on my life.”

A Client’s Learning Experience

I like to share the experiences of clients, they’re insightful and inspiring!

A friend recommended Charlotte as a practitioner, and after witnessing her personal change I decided to take a chance and try this new physical and mental approach towards well-being called the Grinberg Method. I started taking regular sessions in January 2013 and ended my learning process exactly a year later with great satisfaction and clear changes in my body.

I began sessions because I suffered from psoriasis since I was 16, and every winter it would get worse as a result of the constant anxiety and mental stress I would put myself through in response to different internal and external challenges in life, such as from work, friendship, family and relationships. Also in general, I experienced a low self-esteem and the sensation life is a battlefield. Fighting was my main approach to every problem without actually being in contact with how I really felt and expressing that. My biggest fear was entering into an old pattern where I would be hard on myself and suffer.

My first sessions were painful but unlocked most of my fears and helped me identify the areas of my body which I was not aware of. The beginning was hard, in my case quite dramatic I must say, I could not hold my personal suffering back, I felt exposed and it took me time to actually start trusting Charlotte, while realizing my general lack of trust and pensive approach to life. At that point I felt lost, nothing made sense but throughout the sessions I slowly gained awareness of my body, how it was reacting to different thoughts and emotions that crossed my mind, how to perceive them on a physical and mental level, and most importantly that I was able to control these reactions and finally stop them.

Ending my role as a victim has been a step-by-step process which has led me to the question if I wanted to be a happy and energetic person or a gloomy, depressed and unhappy human being. Taking the positive option, while gaining emotional and physical control through the sessions, has helped me increase my personal sense of value, stopped the psoriasis, and improved my personal relationships and job options.

Today I feel I can live the life that I want. The past is in the past and the future is in my hands.
